Room escape games
Room escape games are one of my favorite types of game. There's something magical about the step by step challenge of working out
how to escape the room... or gallery... or swimming pool, phonebooth, or even a submarine!
The screen is usually still; no bouncing balls or bursts of applause.
Just you, the picture in front of you, the mouse - and your overworked brain!
All fab stuff!
The goal is clear - find freedom! Of course, half of the game's enjoyment comes from the fact that you don't have a clue how to get out -
but that feeling of sweet success is yours if you're clever enough!
So - what can you expect from this kind of game?
- There may be an introduction to the game, setting the scene and telling you how you ended up in this mess!
- You may have a time limit - but in other games you can puzzle away as long as you want.
- You need to find hidden objects. A key, a video tape, a screwdriver, a phone number written on a scrap of paper.
- You can use the objects to help you find other objects, open doors or release new clues
- Clicking to the left/right or top/bottom of the game scene may show you another view of the room
- Text comments may or may not give you a hint or two!
Essential skills
If you hate lots of pointing and clicking, room escape games are not for you. These games require an awful lot of
clicking about the screen, as some objects are hidden so well that only pointing on the exact spot will reveal what's there.
Clicking may also reveal hotspots on the scene - taking you to another room or giving you more info. But if you don't click -
you'll remain blissfully ignorant of them.
Logical thinking may also help. But this is debatable :) No - really, a logical brain can help. I just wish I had one!
Play room escape games
Here are some games you can play right here at Casual Games Time:
Escape from Victorian Room
Make yourself a nice cup of Earl Grey, supplement with Scottish shortbread or a wedge of English pound cake - and have some Victorian fun! I think this is quite an easy little puzzler - but how will you get on?
Swimming Pool Escape
Great fun this one, you'll either do swimmingly well - or drown in a sea of frustration, heh heh! Nice to play in a different kind of setting, too.
Training Camp Escape
Here's a solid room escape game for almost-beginners. I say that because I only found it moderately difficult - which means you should find it dead easy!
There's my walkthrough of the game too, if you do get stuck and want to know how these kinds of games work.
Wedding Escape
You'll love this one! Love... romance...
a wedding... but you want to escape, huh? OK - try this room escape game with a bridal theme! And yes - walkthrough on this one too - I must be getting soft...
Escape the phonebooth
Why not try this nifty little escape puzzler. You really do get the feeling you're stuck in that phonebooth for good! I have to admit - this one kept me amused for hours!
U-Boat Escape
Here's a fairly simple escape the room puzzler - not too complicated, but I think you'll like it! Try to escape without the waters overwhelming you...
Light Asylum Escape 1
The first in a series, this game will capture your interest. Nice style, interesting background music, all creating a fun atmosphere. I've added my walkthrough, too.
Once you've played that, you're ready for...
Light Asylum Room 2
Much more difficult than the first game, this one really demands some brain power... or at least more brain power than I have! I'm still battling with it - why not see how you do?
Avalon Escape
Time to calm down from that last game - here's a nice, calming dungeon for you. Although it's a pretty luxurious
dungeon if you ask me! Few little tricky bits, just right for a tea break.
Haunted House Escape Game
A spooky but fun
little caper this, as you use arrow keys to move your jester around the haunted house and collect stuff to help
you escape.
More escape games online
There are some fab escape game websites out there - why not take a look at these? These links open a new window:
Boxed Inn: Panic Room
Here's a great game from Samgine - but it ain't easy! Lock yourself away for an hour or a weekend depending on how expert you are at escaping rooms! Lots of nice features to help you out - very enjoyable.
MOTAS - Mystery of Time and Space
"MOTAS is an online graphic adventure game in which the adventurer has to solve riddles and puzzles"... and solve the mystery of time and space.
No wonder it's taking me so long to solve!
And no wonder. After all, there are now twenty levels. And I'm enjoying every single one.
Escape from the Gallery
Fun modern art gallery escape here. Lots of clicking around needed. You have been warned!
Agame.com Escaping games
I like the agame website - and they have a great selection of escape games, including The Pink Room and The Great Kitchen Escape!
